Bois Ikard 1844-1929
The legendary cattleman, Goodnight, immortalized Ikard with an engraved monument, “Bose Ikard served with me four years on the Goodnight-Loving Trail, never shirked a duty or disobeyed an order, rode with me in many stampedes, participated in three engagements with Comanches, splendid behavior.”
Bose Ikard was born into slavery in Summerville, Mississippi in 1844. It is possible that his slave master Dr. Milton Ikard was his father and his mother was a slave named King. He lived in Union Parrish, Louisiana before moving to Texas.
