Hi Western or Cowboy Enthusiasts,
I apologize for being a little quite. It has been a really busy spring and summer with my other day job of publishing (Author Adventure).
Also the recent devastation of flash floods in Central Texas has affected all of us even though we are in Dallas. Our family had planned to take our grandkids/great nieces to a Church Camp 2 miles west of the main devastation near Camp Mystic this weekend July 18-20, 2025, of course that has been cancelled, but it sure makes you think hard about timing of events and some life choices. Please continue to pray for Texas, families who have lost loved ones, survivors and rescue workers. It will be years before we recover from this devastation. Although the outpouring of love, care, supplies, money and in-person volunteers shows us our hope and humanity.
We also as a Rodeo Team have experienced a devastating blow with the loss of our long-time (25 years) Rodeo Announcer Kevin Woodson. You can find his interview in a previous article or on our YouTube Channel @WildWestDiversity. Again, we saw him just a few weeks ago and seemed fine but now free of disease and riding across the pastures of heaven. So a reminder that we need to be about the things that are important, doing the things we love, with people we love and we need to be kinder to ourselves and others. As my Author Adventure partner Russ Johns always says and lives his motto “Kindness is Cool and Smiles are Free!”
And lastly, understanding and knowing our history hopefully can help us discover unknown heroes and sheroes while helping us not repeat the mistakes of the past. The American Wild West was a exciting time in the life of our USA country and we should learn more about it and the people who created it. I hope to share more of their stories in future articles.
Until then … I’ll see you on the trail or at the rodeo, Liz
